Jan is terrified to go to sleep. Every night in her dreams she relives the blaze that killed her parents. As her dreams grow more vivid, Jan begins to suspect that the fire wasn't an accident: someone murdered her parents, and she thinks she knows who.
Then Jan starts to walk in her sleep, finding herself mysteriously drawn to a series of midnight fires around town. At first the fires are small, but soon one of Jan's classmates - a girl who accused Jan of starting the fires - is horribly disfigured by the flames that destroy her home.
